Desert Planet is a band of electronic music from Lapland , Finland consisting of Jukka Tarkiainen and Jari Mikkola. Your of 8-bit - computer games and science fiction movies influenced music is often the Bitpop assigned.

history

Desert Planet has been active since 1999. Initially founded as a solo project by Jukka Tarkiainen, Jari Mikkola joined the project in 2001 after creating a music video for the title track of the first album Asteroid Hopper .

In 2003, the first jointly produced album Joystick Pop was released on ODOR , a sub-label of the Universal Music Group .

In 2004 the band signed a contract with the German label 9 pm-Records , which allowed them to release their music in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . At the same time they signed with Stupido Records in Finland, which took over the distribution of the releases in Scandinavia and Finland .

In December 2005 the band received the Artist of the Year award from the Arts Council of Lapland for their innovative music and creative internet presence.

style

The musical style of Desert Planet is electronic dance music , or electro-pop , which is strongly influenced by the aesthetics of old video game music from the Nintendo Entertainment System , Amiga and Commodore 64 . Her music videos and live performances are reminiscent of B-movie - science fiction . When performing live, the two musicians wear green motorcycle helmets and white overalls and are supported by the Finnish VJ Antti Hivola.
