Design rule check

The three basic DRCs: width, spacing and overlap rules

The Design Rule Check ( DRC ; German " Design Rule Check ") is a step in the layout verification of circuit board design and integrated circuits . It should ensure the technological feasibility of the designed layout .

For this purpose, compliance with all boundary conditions ( design rules ) specified by the technology is checked, which can be formulated directly as geometric properties. These are essentially rules of width, distance and overlap. Complex, context-dependent geometric rules can also be verified with the DRC.
