Detlef Leenen

Detlef Leenen (* 1942 in Liegnitz , Silesia ) is a German civil lawyer and former professor at the Free University of Berlin .

He gained notoriety in particular through his work in the field of contract law , commercial law and legal methodology .

Life

As an exchange student with the American Field Service (AFS) in America in 1959/61, he graduated from Loomis School, Windsor CT / USA. In 1961 he graduated from the Humanistic Gymnasium near St. Anna, Augsburg. According to his own statements, his law studies in Munich (state exams 1966 and 1972) was interrupted for a short-term study of mathematics that was just as quickly broken off. According to Leenen's own statements, it was only through this temporary preoccupation with the natural sciences that the logic of law became accessible to him. In 1971 he received his doctorate in Munich and worked as a research assistant for both Karl Larenz and Claus-Wilhelm Canaris . His habilitation followed in 1982 and he was granted the license to teach the subjects of civil law, commercial law, legal theory and methodology.

Leenen was appointed full professor at the Free University of Berlin in 1982 , where he was dean of the law department in 1998/1999. He has also taught at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil, the University of Miami School of Law and the Tulane University School of Law. In addition, he was a regular lecturer at the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he was particularly involved in the development and maintenance of various exchange programs between the Free University of Berlin and the University of Connecticut.
