German-Bulgarian Society

The German-Bulgarian Society (DBG for short), registered as the German-Bulgarian Society for the Promotion of Relations between Germany and Bulgaria eV , is a registered association active throughout Germany . It organizes panel discussions and scientific conferences and acts as the editor of various publications.

history

The German-Bulgarian Society, based in Berlin, was founded as a non-profit association in Marburg on December 1st, 1995 on the initiative of Wolfgang Gesemann and Helmut Schaller . The first general assembly took place on May 31, 1996 in the Berlin State Library .

aims

The aim of the company is to support and promote scientific and cultural relations between Germany and Bulgaria, especially in the areas of linguistics, literature and cultural studies. The focus of our work is on the publication of relevant literature, lectures, symposia and exhibitions from various areas of science and culture.

Publications

Since 1997 the association has published the “Bulgaria Yearbook” every year with articles on the language, culture, archeology, history, economy and politics of Bulgaria, and since 2017 it has been continued as “Bulgarica”. The current literature on Bulgaria is presented in an advertisement and discussion section. Further editions are the book series Bulgarian Library - New Series "in the sense of Gustav Weigand " (since 1996) and "Forum: Bulgaria" (since 2013) as well as catalogs for the organized exhibitions, e. B. “Bulgaria in Germany” (1996), “Bulgaria in Europe” (1998), “Bulgaria in America” (2003) or “Religious literature in Bulgaria” (2005).

Members

The board of directors is formed (as of July 2019) with Sigrun Comati (President), Raiko Krauß (Vice President), Jürgen Kristophson (Managing Director) and Martin Henzelmann , Thede Kahl and Helmut W. Schaller as additional members of the Presidium. Honorary members of the society are Ruselina Nicolova and Emilija Staitschewa.
