German as a Second Language ( DaZ ) was a linguistic specialist journal.

The magazine was founded in 2001 by Sprachverband Deutsch eV, which continued the magazines and series published up to then learning German and educational work in the second language German (formerly educational work with foreign youth ). After the dissolution of the language association in 2003, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees took over the publication and stopped the publication of the magazine in 2015.

The journal published articles on methodological and didactic aspects of teaching German as a second language and on research and teaching of DaF / DaZ at universities. Aimed at the target group of teachers, students, academics and language course providers, the articles dealt with pedagogical questions, notes on the didactics of DaZ lessons, and also published materials for lessons and teaching examples.
