German Angus

The cattle breed German Angus was in the 1950s in the Federal Republic of Germany by crossbreeding different indigenous cattle breeds such as German Holstein color towards black colored / Red Holstein and Simmental cattle in Aberdeen Angus bred.

The breed is mainly kept in suckler cow husbandry for meat production but also for landscape maintenance. The animals are either monochrome black or red and always polled. Bulls have an average weight of 1,100 kg at a height at the withers of 145 cm, cows at 136 cm around 700 kg. Further characteristics are calving ease and good nature.

There are around 25,000 suckler cows , of which approximately 8,000 are in the herdbook .
