Calving

After the calf, the placenta is born (afterbirth)
The process of giving birth in cattle is called calving .
The calving is the cattle usually mild and without the help possible in loose housing and particularly the bony Simmental but usually involves considerable effort. The navel is disinfected with wood tar or an iodine tincture and by licking the calf by the mother.
Special attention applies
- after the loss of the afterbirth , for grazing cattle in 6 hours, for stable cattle often only after 2–3 days and
- the early supply of the newborn with colostrum (or colostrum )
