The German Fuchsia Society is an association of fuchsia lovers whose goals include the spread and promotion of fuchsia breeding and culture. The events they sponsor include large fuchsia exhibitions such as the one that took place in 2006 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of this society in Frankfurt's Palmengarten .

Fuchsias have enjoyed great popularity since fuchsias were introduced on a large scale from Central and South America and New Zealand in the 19th century . In Great Britain in particular, fuchsias were one of the typical plants of the Victorian era . Fuchsias were also very popular in Germany in the second half of the 19th century. With the outbreak of World War I , however, the care of fuchsias largely came to a standstill, although important German fuchsia breeders such as Carl Bonstedt were still breeding varieties at that time that are still in cultivation today. In Germany, interest in fuchsia breeding did not begin again until the 1960s. In 1978 the first German fuchsia exhibition took place in Bad Neuenahr and in 1979 a second at the Federal Garden Show in Bonn . The German Fuchsia Society was only founded in 1981. The American Fuchsia Society, founded in 1929, and the British Fuchsia Society are much older .
