The German Society for Flag Studies eV (DGF) is a non-profit association based in Höxter , which is dedicated to flag and flag studies and related disciplines. The DGF was founded on February 4th 1995 in Achim . The founding president was Jörg Karaschewski . The association now has over 100 members and belongs to the international umbrella organization FIAV ( Fédération Internationale des Associations Vexillologiques ).

The focus of the vexillological research of the DGF members are national flags and historical flags and flags, above all municipal flags , but also signal flags , yacht stands, party flags , flag laws and vexillological terminology.

As a rule, the association organizes a vexillologist meeting once a year with lectures and an exchange of ideas, which is generally open to anyone interested in flag studies. The last vexillologist meeting took place in Limburg an der Lahn in autumn 2019 . The DGF operates a website and publishes the flag history magazine Der Flaggenkurier twice a year and the electronic newsletter DGF Info for association members several times a year .

From August 6 to 10, 2007, the International Congress of Vexillology was held by the DGF with the German Historical Museum in Berlin.
