The aim of the German Society for the History of Neurology (DGGN) is to research and evaluate the history of psychiatry , neurology , psychotherapy , neurosurgery , neuroradiology , neuroanatomy and neuropathology , medical psychology and all other neurological subjects. Historically interested members from various departments are involved. It was founded in 1989 and has around 150 members. The president of the society is Axel Karenberg from the University of Cologne .

The DGGN organizes scientific congresses and brings out a publication once a year in its series. The association publishes the journal “Nervenheilkunde”. The association is a member of the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies .
