The German Society for Music Physiology and Musicians 'Medicine eV (DGfMM) is the German interest group for the fields of musicians' medicine and music physiology .

organization

The association, founded in 1994, is headed by Alexander Schmidt and his deputy Anke Steinmetz and has around 510 members in German-speaking countries. An honorary member is Christoph Wagner , who in 1974 founded the Institute for Music Physiology and Musicians' Medicine at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media with a research focus on physiological aptitude testing for instrumental playing.

The association, based in Mainz , operates selflessly and pursues exclusively and directly non-profit purposes. The society works closely with international specialist societies in the field of musicians' medicine.

aims

The association promotes science , research and teaching in the field of physiology and pathophysiology of music making. This includes the improvement of preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic measures. The company works primarily on an interdisciplinary basis . Those who are involved in the training and professional support of musicians are included, such as a. Instrumental and vocal pedagogues, ergonomists , instrument manufacturers , doctors, dentists and physiotherapists .

The society holds annual specialist conferences and publishes the application-oriented scientific journal "Musikphysiologie und Musikmedizin" as the society's communication organ.
