German artist aid

The Deutsche Künstlerhilfe is a support for artists founded in 1953 by Federal President Theodor Heuss .

The Office of the Federal President, in cooperation with the responsible cultural committees of the federal states, supports artists from all disciplines who have made a cultural contribution to the Federal Republic of Germany with their work and are in financial distress due to illness, age or adverse circumstances. Approx. 450 artists and writers are continuously looked after (3 payments per year) with donations of the same amount, the so-called honorary salary of the respective federal state. The amount and payment method of additional long-term allowances can vary widely across Germany. B. with the Bavarian honorary salary paid monthly 250.- . Approx. 200 other writers and artists will receive one-off grants of varying amounts. The annual financial volume in 2005 was around € 2.95 million.
