The German war cemetery Chambry (French: Cimetière militaire allemand de Chambry ) is a cemetery for German war dead of the First World War in Chambry , a French commune in the department of Seine-et-Marne in the region Ile-de-France .

history

The cemetery was laid out in January 1919 by the French military authorities, who put the German dead from 25 municipalities in the department together here. The cemetery is the closest to Paris of all German war cemeteries from the First World War.

For the most part, they are those who fell or who died of their wounds from the troops that formed the head of the German 1st Army on its advance to the capital Paris at the end of August / beginning of September 1914. The dead were quickly and provisionally buried in the battlefield; as a result, most of the dead lost their identity. The same happened with the major German attacks at the end of May and in July 1918, when the attackers reached this area again.
