from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German war cemetery Prilep is located in the city of Prilep in North Macedonia on a hill on the edge of the Prilep municipal cemetery. It is a collective cemetery for the German soldiers who died in Macedonia in World War I and World War II . 60 Bulgarian war dead and Hungarian soldiers are also buried here.

Cemetery complex

The cemetery was originally laid out until 1933 for the war dead of the Salonika Front of the First World War. 1683 German war dead and 146 soldiers from Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and 8 Albanian nationals were buried here. About 50 dead were buried during the Second World War. From 2003 the cemetery was restored. The grave fields of the First World War are marked by groups of symbols made of granite crosses. In a part that has not yet been used, war dead from Macedonia from the Second World War are buried in individual graves. These graves are marked with crosses with names and dates. The graves of the Bulgarian war dead were marked by symbolic cross groups made of white marble and a name plaque. A separate plaque commemorates the Hungarian soldiers. The graves of those who died in World War II are stored digitally.
