In 1903 the magazine was published as the German Food Review . It was the association organ of the Federation of German Food Manufacturers and Traders. V. (later the Association of German Food Manufacturers and Dealers for Food Science and Food Law ). Since 1936 the magazine has been called Deutsche Lebensmittel-Rundschau . It did not appear in 1945 and 1946.

Initially, the magazine was published by Schmiedel Verlag in Stuttgart, then until 2007 by the Wissenschaftliche Verlagsgesellschaft Stuttgart (WVG). It has been published by Behr's Verlag since 2008 . In October 2008 the magazine was given a new design: the acronym DLR was brought into focus, the old subtitle magazine for food science and food law was replaced by analytics, research, processes, law .
