BEHR'S is a specialist publisher active in the fields of food law , food technology and hygiene , food quality management, community catering , animal feed and cosmetics law as well as care and health . Behr's is one of the leading information providers in the above areas.

History of Behr's Verlag

In 1835 Bernhard Behr founded Behr's Verlag in Berlin. In addition to Romance and Slavic scripts, the publisher also included literary topics in the publishing program.

The following areas were later named as the publisher's area of ​​activity: bibliography, German studies, geography, history and politics, homeopathy, military literature, philosophy, beautiful literature, Protestant theology, economics.

After the Second World War, Rolf Kadach and Rudolph Tetzlaff relocated the publishing house to Wiesbaden and from then on focused primarily on publications on the food industry . The publisher increasingly became a specialist magazine publisher.

In 1960, the publisher Werner Benecke, who had been active in the confectionery industry since 1952, took over Behr's Verlag with his family. The headquarters of the publishing house was relocated to Averhoffstrasse in Hamburg, where it is still based today. After the death of his parents in 1966 Dieter Benecke took over the publishing house. Since 1976, Behr's has been expanding the specialist books and events area and has become an information service provider for the food , communal catering , cosmetics and health sectors .

In 1998 the WEKA publishing group took over 49% of the company shares. Eight years later, Deutsche Apotheker Verlag acquired the shares in WEKA. At the end of 2010, Dieter Benecke left the publishing house as partner and managing director. Today Behr's Verlag belongs to the publishing group Deutscher Apotheker Verlag , and Arno Langbehn has been the managing director since 2005 .

Historical publications

The first work published by Behr's was entitled: “How should one behave in the cholera epidemic that is now ruling here (1837)?” It was written by a Hans Ferdinand von Arnim on the occasion of a cholera outbreak in Berlin.

With the change of management in 1899, B. Behr's Verlag published many important works with a focus on German studies, for example the "International Bibliography of Art History" (1902–1904), Christian Dietrich Grabbe "Complete Works" (4 volumes, 1902) , Friedrich Hebbel “Complete Works” (1901–1906), Wilhelm von Humboldt “Collected Writings” (1903–1906) and “Annual Reports for Modern German Literature History” (1902 ff.), Which fell victim to the First World War .

In the war year 1915 the book "Vom Kriege" by Graf von Clausewitz was published.

After the Second World War , the founding of the magazines "Die Ernahrungwirtschaft", "Der Industriebackmeister" and "Der Marktforscher" laid the foundation for the food industry. B. Behr's Verlag became more and more a specialist magazine publisher.
