The German Saw and Wood Industry Association (DeSH) represents the interests of the saw and wood industry at the federal level and in European and international organizations and matters.

The association, based in Berlin, has the task of representing its members nationally and internationally in economic and branch-political as well as technical issues and to support them in their economic goals. The DeSH represents and mediates industry interests in a political context, directly and indirectly via opinion leaders and the media. The spectrum ranges from observing and helping to shape the legislative and administrative environment through classic lobbying to participating in campaigns and controversial debates.

The forest and wood sector is one of the largest employers in Germany. The industry provides more jobs than the automotive and electrical industries. In terms of employees and turnover, the forest and wood sector is one of the leading sectors in Germany. The sector employs almost one million people, comprises around 160,000 companies and generates annual sales of around 114 billion euros.

Goals and fields of activity

The association aims to secure and strengthen the industry through its actions. Securing the raw material wood for further processing along the forest and wood product chain as well as providing information on wood products and the wood market are core tasks of the association. The association is actively involved in drafting standards and laws, representing the interests of its members and the industry. As a mouthpiece for the sawmill and wood industry , the association communicates externally with politicians and the public as well as internally and internally with its members and provides important information from the areas of forestry , woodworking and nature conservation.
