The German Schreberjugend Bundesverband eV (DSchrJ), which has its roots in allotment gardens ( allotment gardens ), is nevertheless an independent youth association that is not bound by party politics or denominations . The Deutsche Schreberjugend advocates democratic structures in youth work in which young people can organize themselves, shape together and develop freely. The spectrum of activities has steadily expanded since the DSchrJ was founded. Further areas of the association's child and youth work are being developed.

Members of the Schreberjugend are children, adolescents and young people who organize themselves in ten regional associations and many local groups across Germany. Apart from the federal association as an umbrella organization, there are state associations, city associations and individual local or district groups.

history

The foundation of the Deutsche Schreberjugend goes back to 1864. This year, the first supervised children's and youth playground was opened by Innozenz Hauschild on the initiative of a youth care association in Leipzig . This is based on the findings of Moritz Schreber (orthopedist and anthropologist). He was one of the first to regard children and young people as independent personalities. This youth care association was named after him in memory of Schreber. The idea of going out into nature with children and young people at the time of industrialization , undertaking child-friendly activities and escaping everyday working life became the basic idea of the groups. The later allotment gardens emerged from this context and were continued by the parents.

Fields of activity

In the context of extracurricular educational work, the musical and cultural area and popular sports work with children and young people are strongly represented. In the field of youth political education, the Schreberjugend organizes seminars , central workshops and specialist meetings.

activities

The activities of the DSchrJ take place in children and youth groups, project-oriented, and in socio-educational institutions sponsored by the German Schreberjugend. The diversity of the activities of the DSchrJ is reflected in a wide range of opportunities for children and young people. The assumption of responsibility and participation play an important role. In addition to the daily youth work, the implementation of national and international youth exchange measures is important. In this field of work, understanding how to interact with one another, between different cultures, religions and ways of life is learned, intercultural competence is increased and prejudices are reduced.
