German School Ho Chi Minh City

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International German School Ho Chi Minh City (IGS) is a from the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany recognized and officially funded German international school in Ho Chi Minh City . It belongs to the network of 141 German schools abroad and is a member of the World Association of German Schools Abroad. She has been part of the Federal Foreign Office's partner school initiative since 2013.

This German-Vietnamese school is sponsored by the Paderborn- based Foundation Education & Crafts with 250 national and international educational locations. Dirk Thormann has been the new headmaster since July 1st, 2015.

The school sees itself as an intercultural place of learning and is open to children of all nationalities with the appropriate admission requirements. Students from 19 nations are currently studying on the villa campus. In February 2018, the IGS was recognized as a German Language Diploma School by the Central Committee for the German Language Diploma and already carried out very successful exams in spring 2018.

In the past the school had to deal with various problems. In 2015, the sponsor's concept was not coordinated with the school staff and caused displeasure. A short time later the headmaster changed. At the end of the 2016/17 school year, more than half of the teachers left school; the majority had been employed at the school for less than a year, since with contracts of 11 months one does not have to pay the severance pay that is guaranteed after 12 months under Vietnamese law.
