The German Association for Gestalt Therapy e. V. is an umbrella organization for Gestalt therapists and Gestalt institutes in the Federal Republic of Germany.

founding

The association was founded in 1986 as an umbrella organization for Gestalt therapists and training institutes for Gestalt therapy. Honorary members are Laura Perls, Isadore From and Miriam and Erving Polster.

Members

The association currently has 943 members (gestalt therapists, supervisors and consultants) and 8 institutional members. These are training institutes for gestalt therapy whose curricula and qualifications of the trainers correspond to the DVG training guidelines.

Any person who has completed a qualified training in gestalt therapy in accordance with the quality requirements of the DVG or who can provide evidence of comparable training in gestalt therapy can become a full member of the DVG.

Anyone who is in gestalt therapy training can become a member in training. Any person who is interested in supporting and promoting the goals of the DVG can become a supporting member.

Any training institute can become an institutional member if its curricula and trainers' qualifications (?) Comply with the DVG's training guidelines.

Purpose and tasks of the DVG

As the umbrella organization of Gestalt therapists in Germany, the association represents the health-political and professional interests of its members and offers them a place for professional exchange and joint action.

The association promotes the professional psychotherapeutic and psychosocial care of the population and the public health system on the basis of Gestalt therapy, especially in the fields of prevention, therapy, rehabilitation, education, counseling and supervision.

The association supports scientific research and further development of the theory and practice of Gestalt therapy and the like. a. by promoting publications and research projects.

Structure of the DVG

The association is run by an honorary board that is elected every two years by the general meeting. The professional work of the association is carried out in commissions, e.g. training and recognition committees to secure the training standards, as well as in specialist groups, e.g. for the development of clinical theory and practice of Gestalt therapy.

Training standards

On the basis of the experience of the training institutes and the training requirements at national and European level, the association has developed standards for the training of gestalt therapists as well as consultants and supervisors. Part-time training in gestalt therapy usually takes four years. Teaching therapy and supervision of work with clients are essential components of the training.

Participation in professional associations

At the federal level, the association is a founding member of the Humanistic Psychotherapy Working Group (AGHPT) and a member of the Professional Association of Academic Psychotherapists eV (BaPT) and the German Society for Counseling (DGfB). At the European level, DVG is a founding member of the European Association for Gestalt Therapy (EAGT).

GESTALTTHERAPIE trade journal

The association publishes the trade journal GESTALTTHERAPIE - Forum for Gestalt Perspectives twice a year. It publishes research contributions and practical experience from various areas of application, and the theory of gestalt therapy is further developed. The editorial team of GESTALTTHERAPIE is made up of scientifically active and / or practicing Gestalt therapists from Germany and abroad and is in contact with the editorial staff of other European and American specialist journals on gestalt therapy.

Symposium on Gestalt therapy

The association organizes an annual conference lasting several days, each of which has a current topic. At the same time the annual general meeting takes place. The specialist conferences serve for further training, professional exchange and the examination of new developments in the field of psychotherapeutic theory and practice. The 2014 conference on the subject of “Fascination and Effectiveness in a Challenging Time” took place from May 30th to June 1st 2014 in Kassel.

Award competition

The DVG regularly awards graduation work as part of a competition in cooperation with the German-speaking umbrella organizations in Austria and Switzerland.

Memorial plaque for Fritz Perls

On October 12, 2012, as part of the congress of the Humanistic Psychotherapy Working Group (AGHPT), the association put a memorial plaque on his former home in Berlin-Schöneberg, Ansbacher Strasse 13, for the founder of Gestalt therapy, Fritz Perls. Fritz Salomon Perls lived here with his family from 1896 to 1908. On the outskirts of the Bavarian Quarter, known as the residential area of ​​many well-known Jewish citizens of Berlin, is now to his contribution to humanistic psychotherapy, as well as to his Jewish roots up to emigration to South Africa and later to be remembered in the USA.

Perl's grandson, Robert “Bob” Perls was also a guest during the unveiling.
