The German National Library of Agriculture Sciences (FVL) was 1847 Library Agricultural of the Royal College in Bonn - Poppelsdorf founded in 1934 with the inclusion of the now Agricultural University as the seventh faculty in the University of Bonn to the Department Agriculture of University Library . In 1950 it was assigned the special collection area agriculture by the German Research Foundation , by which it was appointed the central library of agricultural science in 1962 . In 1983 she moved into her own building, which also housed the holdings of the departmental libraries for natural sciences and medicine of the university library.

In 1992 the ZBL was included in the " Blue List " and thus in the joint financing by the federal and state governments and then changed its name in 1995 to the German Central Library for Agricultural Sciences. After the decision in 2001 to develop the ZBL as an independent institution, the German Central Library for Medicine (ZB MED) in Cologne took over the subjects of nutrition , the environment and agricultural sciences . The ZBL thus became (at the old location) the departmental library for nutrition, the environment and agricultural sciences of the ZB MED, which is spatially connected to the department library for medicine, natural sciences and agriculture of the University and State Library of Bonn.
