The German Historical Research Association of the Canton of Freiburg (DGVF) was founded in 1893. The purpose of the association is to research the history of Friborg and general, to deepen and disseminate historical education and to preserve the historical values ​​in the canton of Friborg . In addition, the association publishes the “Freiburger Geschichtsblätter” and participates in the publication of other historical works. His other activities include the organization of public lectures, guided tours and excursions.

founding

On July 25, 1893, Dean Josef Tschopp called for the establishment of a German-language history association in the canton of Friborg in the “ Freiburger Zeitung ”: “The Germans slept for over half a century. Wouldn't it be time we woke up and mobilized our modest forces to found a German historical society? ”On November 16 of the same year, the founding meeting of the German History Researcher (from 1897: History Researcher) was held in the Brasserie Peier in Freiburg of the Canton of Friborg. The first president of the association was Albert Büchi (1864–1930), professor of Swiss history and general history of antiquity at the University of Freiburg.

The "Freiburger Geschichtsblätter" ( ISSN  0259-3955 ) is the annual publication of the German Historical Research Association of the Canton of Friborg. They have been published since 1894 and given to members of the association as an annual gift.

Advancement award for historical work at Freiburg colleges

The German Historical Research Association of the Canton of Friborg awards a prize every year to the best Matura thesis in the field of history. The work is selected and awarded by a committee of the board of the history association based on the suggestions of the history teachers of the three high schools of St. Michael, St. Cross and Gambach. With the award, the German Historical Research Association aims to promote interest in history among high school students and future historians.
