Ivan Mrkić

Ivan Mrkić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Иван Мркић ; born May 30, 1953 in Belgrade ) is a Serbian diplomat and politician. From July 2012 to April 2014 he was Serbian Foreign Minister in the government of Prime Minister Ivica Dačić .

Life

After graduating from the Law Faculty of the University of Belgrade , Ivan Mrkić worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia . From 1982 to 1986 he was a member of the Yugoslav Representation to the United Nations in New York, and from 1990 to 1992 of the Yugoslav delegation to the European Community in Brussels.

From 1992 to 1993 he was the office manager of the President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Dobrica Ćosić . From 1993 to 1999 he was Chargé d'Affaires and Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in Cyprus . Since the then Serbian President Slobodan Milošević ran financial transactions through Cyprus, Mrkić was associated with this. In the following years Mrkić held important positions in the Foreign Ministry of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (from 2003: Serbia and Montenegro ). In 2005 he was chairman of the Commission for the Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention in Serbia and Montenegro.

From 2006 to 2011 he was Serbian ambassador to Japan . After the parliamentary elections in Serbia in 2012 , Mrkić, a non-party member, became Foreign Minister in the government formed in July 2012 under Ivica Dačić at the suggestion of Srpska Napredna Stranka . After the parliamentary elections in Serbia in 2014 , Ivica Dačić succeeded Mrkić's foreign minister.
