from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German People's Federation for Polish Silesia , abbreviated DVB (1921–1925: German-Upper Silesian People's Federation for Polish Silesia to protect minority rights ) was an organization of the German minority in the Autonomous Voivodeship of Silesia .

history

The association was founded on November 8, 1921 in Katowice under the name Deutsch-Oberschlesischer Volksbund to protect minority rights . In 1925 the name was changed to Deutscher Volksbund for Polish Silesia . The first president of the Volksbund was Karl Egon von Reitzenstein (1873–1924), his successor from 1925 to 1929 Edwin Henckel von Donnersmarck (1865–1929), followed by Hans Heinrich von Pleß , the son of Prince Hans Heinrich XV. from Hochberg . The actual leadership, however, lay with the board of directors, which Otto Ulitz led as chairman for many years .

The task of the Volksbund was to safeguard the constitutional and contractual rights of the German minority as well as the preservation and care of German culture and economy.

The main council of the German Oberschlesier , founded in 2002, sees itself as the successor organization of the German People's Union.
