Edwin Henckel von Donnersmarck (born January 23, 1865 in Romolkwitz , Silesia ; † March 23, 1929 in Nakło , Upper Silesia ) was a German-Polish count , manor owner, mining entrepreneur and member of the Prussian House of Representatives (center).

Live and act

He came from the noble Silesian family Henckel von Donnersmarck and was born the son of the Reichstag delegate Lazarus IV. Henckel von Donnersmarck (1835-1914) and his wife Maria Countess von Schweinitz and Krain (1838-1914); the industrialist Hugo Henckel von Donnersmarck (1811–1890) was his grandfather.

Edwin Henckel von Donnersmarck owned a manor in Romolkwitz. As an entrepreneur in the Free Estate of Bytom , which belonged to him , he was engaged in sustainable coal and ore mining as well as zinc smelting.

The count was very religious and was involved in the Catholic Church across the region; u. a. In 1912 he served in Aachen and in 1921 in Frankfurt am Main as Vice President of the German Catholic Congress .

From 1908 to 1918 he sat for the German Center Party as a member of the Prussian state parliament . 1925–1929 the nobleman worked as President of the German People's Federation for Polish Silesia .

Before 1918 Edwin Henckel von Donnersmarck was chairman of the Silesian Automobile Club , a former regional section of the AvD .

He was married to Wilhelmine Marie Countess Kinsky von Wchinitz and Tettau (1869–1943). The marriage had two sons, Count Friedrich-Carl Henckel von Donnersmarck (1905–1989) and Friedrich Carl Alois Anton Vinzenz Henckel von Donnersmarck (1902–1991), and two daughters, Marie Alice Anna Gabriela Margarethe Henckel von Donnersmarck (1897–1971) ) and Sophie Josefine Margarete Henckel von Donnersmarck (1896–1972). The Cistercian Abbot Gregor Henckel-Donnersmarck (* 1943) and his brother Leo-Ferdinand Count Henckel von Donnersmarck (1935–2009) are the couple's grandchildren, as are Karl Josef Count Henckel von Donnersmarck (1928–2008), married to Princess Marie-Adélaide von Luxembourg (1924–2007), daughter of Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg . The film director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (* 1973) is a great-grandson.
