The German Shepherd Museum in the city of Hersbruck was opened in 1933. It is located in a listed ensemble, consisting of a farmhouse from the 16th century, a barn and another building with a large courtyard and garden. Clothing, tools and handicrafts by shepherds from all over the world give insights into this old profession in the main house. The permanent exhibition "Man - Animal" on the 2nd floor of the renovated barn of the German Shepherd Museum opened on February 6, 2009. It forms the introduction to the museum theme. An entertaining and informative exhibition that traces the diverse relationships between humans and farm animals is presented on around 230 square meters. She explains that since prehistoric times people have kept animals for work and transport, as suppliers of food and raw materials, and staged the keeping and feeding of cattle over the course of time.

At more than ten locations within the exhibition, small and large visitors are invited to become active themselves and experience museum history with all their senses. For example, visitors can practice the laborious tensioning of the forehead yoke on a lifelike replica of the cow and then, face to face with the cow, test their own (meager) tensile forces on a specially developed "yoke machine".

For groups, school classes and adult groups, there is an extensive educational accompanying program in which the concept “with all the senses” is continued. During the themed tour “From the cow to the butter”, for example, milking and buttering are on the program, after work is done, buttermilk and a sandwich taste good.

Every year there are three to four special exhibitions on a wide variety of topics from art and culture. Traditional festivals such as Shepherd's Day on January 6th, sheep festival in May, Sardinian evening in June and artisan market in September or apple days with apple varieties round off the offer of a lively museum.
