The German Deaf-Blind Association advocates the realization of the rights to education and participation of hearing-impaired and deaf-blind people in community life and has set itself the task of promoting and accompanying people with hearing impairments and deaf-blind people throughout their lives.

For this purpose, the German Association for the Deaf and Blind maintains two central facilities: TBZ Hannover and TBZ Fischbeck (the abbreviation TBZ stands for Deafblind Center).

After the school has been expanded into an education center, around 80 children and young people will be schooled and trained.

In 1990 a facility was created in Fischbeck with accommodation and care facilities for around 100 multi-handicapped deaf-blind adults, to which a workshop for handicapped people is attached.
