The Deux Arabesques are among Claude Debussy's most famous works. They were written between 1888 and 1891 and were thus his second composition for two-handed piano after Danse bohémienne (1880) .

The first arabesque in E major is headed with Andantino con moto , the second in G major with Allegretto scherzando .

An arabesque is a piece in free form that was typical of romantic music and was also used by Robert Schumann . Ornaments and gimmicks in the piece, which may affect the rhythm or melody, are striking .

Around 20,000 copies were published during Debussy's lifetime and they still have their place in piano lessons today.
