Dev (mythology)

As Dev or Dew (plural Devs, Dews ) spirits are referred to in Armenian mythology , which appear as animals or hybrid beings from several animals. Dev goes back to Avestian Daeva via Neupersian diw and Middle Persian dew . Devs live in ruins of towns and villages. Mages are able to drive Devs into or out of people's bodies.

According to Ełišẽ Vardapet, there are different types of devs:

Evil devs: Alḱ , Ays , Čivał , Višap

Good devs : Aralēz , Uruakan

Neutral Devs: K'aǰk '
