Dezyderiusz Danczowski

Dezyderiusz Danczowski (born March 16, 1891 in Battonya , † August 25, 1950 in Trzcińsko-Zdrój ) was a Polish cellist and music teacher.

Danczowski attended the Lemberg and Leipzig Conservatoires and made his debut in Leipzig in 1909 with Dvořák's Cello Concerto. Until 1914 he was concertmaster of the cello section of the Leipzig Philharmonic. During the First World War he lived in Russia and stayed in Kiev, Odessa and Taganrog.

In 1918 he came to Poznan. Here he was a member of the opera theater orchestra and a string quartet (with Zdzisław Jahnke , Tadeusz Gonet - later Władysław Witkowski and Tadeusz Szulc - later Jan Rakowski ) and taught at the Conservatory from 1920. From 1923 to 1933 he directed a class for cello and chamber music at the Music School in Cincinnati .

From 1933 to 1935 Danczowski worked as a cellist in the opera orchestra and professor of cello at the Lemberg Conservatory. He then resumed his activities at the conservatory, in the opera orchestra and as a member of the string quartet in Poznan.

During the Second World War he gave music lessons underground in Warsaw. After a year in Cracow in 1946 he became professor at the State Music Academy in Poznan and concertmaster at the Poznan Opera, and he also resumed his work in the revived string quartet. The national Dezyderiusz Danczowski competition for cellists has been held in Poznan since 1974 .
