When Dhat syndrome - after the ancient Indian Sanskrit -term "dhatu" for "Elixir of Life" - is the fearful notion that the seeds of losing his life energy - while conversely retention of ejaculation to a long life in health lead .

There is often a fear of pollution or a loss of semen through the urine , so that urine is often checked for cloudiness, which should give an indication of the feared semen loss.

This phenomenon is interpreted as a culturally conditioned sexual neurosis of the Indian subcontinent. In the context of tantric practices, dhat syndrome might appear in a different light at first glance. The key word, however, is fear - and it is primarily the doomed attempt to sustain one's life. Fear arises again and again because the patient knows this too, but repeatedly "denies" this knowledge.

The term was coined by Narendra Wig in 1960 .
