Diocesan Art Association Freising
The Diözesan-Kunstverein Freising (also Diözesan-Kunstverein München-Freising ) existed from 1857 to 1878. The purpose of the association, which saw itself as a scientific association, was the research and preservation of old works of art and architectural monuments in the Archdiocese of Munich-Freising .
history
The association was founded on May 6, 1857 on the initiative of the Freising philosopher and art historian Joachim Sighart . Sighart, who had written numerous writings and treatises on art-historical topics, became the first chairman of the association. The founding members were predominantly teachers and professors of the Freising Royal Bavarian Lyceum and the Freising Seminary , which was then known as the Archbishop's Seminary .
After Sighart's death in 1867, the club stopped developing. It expired in 1878. As early as 1860, the tasks were largely taken over by the Munich Association for Christian Art , which still exists today.
