Diocesan Museum of Jaca

The Diocesan Museum Jaca (Spanish Museo Diocesano de Jaca ) is the museum for medieval religious art of the Diocese of Jaca in the Spanish city ​​of Jaca in the province of Huesca ( Aragon ).

history

The Diocesan Museum opened in 1970. In 2003 it was closed to ensure a comprehensive renovation of the buildings and the modern presentation of the works of art. The reopening took place in 2010.

exhibition

In the museum, located in the outbuildings of Jaca Cathedral (in the Santa Cruz chapel , the cloister and the refectory ), medieval wall paintings of the diocesan churches are exhibited. These Romanesque and Gothic works were removed from the churches in the 1960s and 1970s and presented in the museum after their restoration. Romanesque capitals , epitaphs and objects of religious art are also exhibited.
