The Diademodontoidea were a group of herbivorous cynodonts that lived from the Lower to the Upper Triassic . Fossil remains of the animals have been found in Argentina, North America, Africa, Russia, China, and India. Like most cynodonts, they had elongated canines. The enlarged teeth behind the canines, which have a precise tooth-on-tooth occlusion , were characteristic of the diademodontoid . This is considered a sign of a herbivorous diet.
The group is divided into two families. The Traversodontidae differ from the Diademodontidae by their simpler dentition.
