Appearance

The fountain in Geißstraße, created by Josef Zeitler at the end of the renovation of Stuttgart's old town, was inaugurated on May 12, 1909. It shows a farm boy with a hat, shirt, short jacket, trousers and boots, with a gilded pig between his legs . According to his own statement, Zeitler designed the figure after a farm boy from the Fildern , whom he had met in the slaughterhouse.

The farm boy and pig stand on a bell-shaped pedestal , on which there are also six small ducks . The pig and the ducks serve as gargoyles , from which the water flows into a round fountain bowl resting on three legs. A wrought-iron lattice richly decorated with plant shapes rises on its edge . In it there are six gold-plated medallions that show scenes from the fairy tale Hans im Glück. Above it is a wrought-iron canopy , the tip of which is crowned by a four-leaf, gilded clover .

The maintenance and operation of the Hans-im-Glück-Fountain are financed by the City of Stuttgart, the Stuttgart Brünnele Foundation and so-called fountain sponsors. It usually operates from mid-May to mid-September.
