The Diakonie Düsseldorf e. V. , Community Service of the Protestant Churches eV, is a local Protestant welfare association, organized in the Diakonie Deutschland . On behalf of the 23 evangelical parishes in Düsseldorf , the members of the registered association, it is involved in the classic diaconal fields of work: child and youth welfare as well as help for unemployed, homeless, addicts, disabled and elderly people. Diakonie Düsseldorf is a member of Eurodiaconia, a network of churches and Christian NGOs.

Since it was founded in 1916 as the Evangelical Youth and Welfare Office , the areas of responsibility have grown steadily. Today Diakonie Düsseldorf is divided into three business areas: Youth and Family , Health and Social Affairs and Life in Old Age . 2500 full-time employees and 1600 volunteers work at Diakonie Düsseldorf at 180 locations. Since 2018, the board has consisted of Stefanie Krones, Rudolf Brune and deaconry pastor Thorsten Nolting.

Facilities

The head office is on the Diakonie square in Düsseldorf-Flingern Nord ; the Diakoniekirche Bergerkirche (consecrated 1687) is in the old town . The facilities, which are spread over the entire city area, include day care centers for the homeless, an addiction counseling and therapy center and various supervised homes for children and adults as well as inpatient, semi-inpatient and outpatient facilities for elderly care . Diakonie Düsseldorf offers school social work and curative educational advice. It is also the provider of 46 Protestant day-care centers in the city. Together with the Düsseldorfer Tafel , Diakonie Düsseldorf organizes several food editions. Diakonie Düsseldorf performs many of its tasks on behalf of the City of Düsseldorf. It also works closely with the Protestant parishes.

On September 25, 2016 Diakonie Düsseldorf celebrated its 100th anniversary.
