The Diakonie Ruhr non-profit GmbH is a Protestant company in the welfare sector based in Bochum . Its 62 services and facilities also extend over Witten , Dortmund and Lünen .

Diakonie Ruhr includes the areas of assistance for the elderly , assistance for the disabled , assistance for addicts , assistance for the homeless , assistance for children and young people as well as advice for refugees. In addition to a wide range of advisory services and three schools for social care professions, there are ten nursing homes for the elderly and an outpatient care service. For people with disabilities, the agency maintains several dormitories and workshops as well as an integrative day-care center. People with mental illnesses can also find support at Diakonie Ruhr.

Diakonie Ruhr hires new trainees every year on April 1st and October 1st, who learn to become a skilled worker in the field of elderly care within a three-year training course.

She is a member of the head association Diakonie Rheinland-Westfalen-Lippe and an employer for 3000 people. The managing directors are Werner Neveling and Jens Koch.

In 1927 the local association for Inner Mission was founded by the Bochum Protestant parish. In the beginning there was a refuge for women, girls and children as well as an aid organization for the unemployed and the midnight, waiter, circus and train station mission. There was also a community nurses' station, a handicraft school, kindergartens, children's homes and the hostel for home. After World War II , facilities for the elderly and the disabled were set up and a network of advice centers was set up.

In 1928 there were just seven employees at the local association, in 2013 there were around 3,000.

Together with the Ev. Hospital community Herne | Castrop-Rauxel, Diakonie Ruhr acquired the holding Ev. Verbund Ruhr founded. With a total of over 4900 employees, EVR gGmbH is the largest Protestant employer in the region. The main goal is a close interlinking of inpatient geriatric medicine with the outpatient, partial inpatient and inpatient care options.

The Inner Mission Diakonie-Ruhr has been offering, in cooperation with Aktion Mensch , a specialist center for advice and support for traumatized children and young people who came to Bochum as refugees since 2013 .

In 2013 and 2014, Diakonie Ruhr built two new barrier-free residential complexes with a total of 74 residential units in Bochum, Diakonie Ruhr is investing around 10 million euros in the construction. In 2016, in collaboration with Ev. Harpen parish built 20 more barrier-free apartments for assisted living.
