The diamond laboratory GmbH Idar-Oberstein is the first and only laboratory in Germany, by the accreditation after an ISO standard competence for quality testing ground diamond has been officially confirmed.

The laboratory is located in the jewelery and gemstone town of Idar-Oberstein . It determines the quality of diamonds according to recognized standards (graduation). It is accredited by the German Accreditation Service in Berlin (DAkkS). This certifies that it tests cut, unmounted natural diamonds from 0.23 ct in accordance with the international standard DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025: 2005. The laboratory works according to the rules of the "International Diamont Council (IDC)", an association of the world associations of diamond exchanges and diamond grinding shops. It is the only institution of its kind in Germany.

The diagnosis of various types of treatment to change the degree of purity or color are just as much part of the laboratory's services as the reliable identification of imitations or synthetic diamonds. The laboratory is not involved in the diamond trade, nor does it make any value determinations. The accreditation carried out by the DAkkS is valid in 16 European countries, the USA , Australia and some Asian countries.

The laboratory issues certificates as part of its work. These include confirmation that the diamond is a natural diamond, a reference number, the weight, cut shape and dimensions, degree of purity , color and degree of fluorescence, cut, proportions, symmetry and polish, notes and identifying features, if available, diagram, location of the Issue, date of issue and a reference to the IDC.

history

In 1977 the Diamant Prüflabor GmbH Idar-Oberstein was founded by Georg Berg, Helmut Fuchs, Manfred Giloy, Dieter Hahn, Hans Hahn, Walter Hamscher, Hans-Dieter Krieger, Gustav Manz, Karl-Heinz Meng and Hermann Mülle, they were all diamond dealers. The aim was to establish the rules for grading diamonds in Germany. In 2002 it was accredited by the DAkkS. The DPL is the only institution in the world that also provides a guarantee and therefore liability for your test results.
