Diamonds is a song by Herb Alpert with Janet Jackson and Lisa Keith from the year 1987 , that of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis was written. It appeared on the album Keep Your Eye on Me .

After his release on 10 January 1987, reached Pop - R & B -Titel in the United States 5th place and was Jackson's sixth top 5 hit in succession. In the American division charts Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, US Hot Dance Music / Club Play and the US Hot Dance Music / Maxi-Singles Sales, the song even reached number 1. In the 1987 annual charts, the song was placed in America 79th place.

In the United Kingdom , the song was released on April 14, 1987 and had only moderate success. The song only reached number 27 in the UK charts two months after it was released. In total, the song stayed in the UK charts for seven weeks.

In Canada and the Netherlands the song became more successful again and reached number 4 in both countries.

The song African Flame appeared on the B-side of the single .

Jackson only sang the song on her Number Ones: Up Close and Personal tour in 2011.

Music video

In the music video, Herb Alpert visits the “Bucky's” nightclub, where a DJ is playing Alpert's new single. The guests in the night club cheer the song. Alpert then sings the song with his band on a small stage in the nightclub. Meanwhile, Janet Jackson gets out of a limousine in front of the nightclub. Janet Jackson herself does not appear in the music video, however - a double played these scenes as well as Janet's shadow in the nightclub. In the further course of the music video, a small child portrays Jackson.
