The Dian Chi ( Chinese 滇池 , Pinyin Diān Chí ) is a freshwater lake in the eastern part of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in the area of the city of Kunming , the capital of the Chinese province of Yunnan . It is also sometimes called Kunming Lake .
The listed Shilongba hydropower plant is operated with its water.
The Wolterstorff newt , which only occurs here but has since been considered extinct, lived in the lake .
