Diaphanosoma brachyurum is a type of cancer in the genus Diaphanosoma . This species occurs frequently and can be found in plankton and on the banks of nutrient-rich, larger ponds and lakes, but also in heather and moor lakes.
features
The narrow head has no beak and no organ of attachment and is sharply set off from the body shell. The complex eye has numerous crystal lenses, but no nauplius eye . The first antenna is protruding and small in females, the second antenna is very large and muscular. The latter has outriggers that prevent it from sinking. There are six pairs of legs. In males, the stem-shaped, long copulatory organ is located behind the sixth pair of legs. Females reach a size of just under a millimeter.
