The diascopy is a term used in dermatology . It is a skin examination technique . A reddening of the skin ( erythema ) is pressed away with a glass spatula in order to assess the natural color of the skin. Nowadays, the glass spatula is made of plastic to prevent injuries from breaking the spatula. A printed centimeter scale makes it possible to measure efflorescences at the same time . A magnifying glass is often integrated into the spatula.

Diascopy is used for red spots to rule out bleeding , tuberculoid or sarcoid infiltrates to assess intrinsic infiltrates , black-blue tumors to rule out a vascular tumor ( malignant epitheloid hemangioendothelioma ), basal cell carcinomas to assess the " perl -cord-like" marginal margin ( cutaneous benign lymphadena ) Borreliosis and lymphatic infiltrates) to assess the deep infiltrate.
