from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The egg shell has been located on Podbielskiallee in Dahlem since 1977

The egg shell is a restaurant and a traditional jazz club in the Berlin district of Dahlem in a villa at the Podbielskiallee underground station . Under the same name, also known as Egg Shell 2 , there was a restaurant in the 1980s on Kurfürstendamm at the corner of Rankestrasse , near the Memorial Church . After the political change , another inn was opened in the traditional restaurant Zenner in Treptower Park , which was called Eierschale Zenner until it closed in 2019 and was previously also known as Eierschale 3 .

history

The egg shell was originally founded by Hawe Schneider , the trombonist of the Spree City Stompers . In 1952/1953 he set up a jazz club called Kajüte in the basement of the war ruins of the Schöneberg town hall . Because of the dilapidation, the authorities closed the cellar and so the bar moved in 1956 to the Dahlem district in the 350 m² cellar of house No. 8 on Breitenbachplatz , where it was renamed Eggshell and became the hippest jazz club in West Berlin . Jazz greats like Louis Armstrong , Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald came to the club for a gig after their concerts . At the end of the 1960s, Schneider sold the egg shell, which finally moved to Podbielskiallee in 1977 due to the high rent . In December 2000 the traditional restaurant in Dahlem was closed. In October 2005, the transformation into a restaurant began. On June 1st, 2008 the eggshell was reopened. In addition to jazz bands, show bands now also perform in the inn, whose repertoire includes soul , pop , disco and funk music from the 1970s and 1980s.
