Thick blue
Richard Miles Blau (born September 14, 1943 ) is a photographer , filmmaker , media scientist and professor at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee .

Dick Blau is a son of the actress Beatrice Manley , his biological father is the painter Albert Freedberg . Dick was later adopted by theater director Herbert Blau , who raised him from the age of 6. He has two children with his long-term relationship with Jane Gallop , a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Dick Blau earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1965 and a PhD in American studies from Yale University in 1973 .
Blue is a professor of film in the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His photographs and films have been exhibited internationally and are part of museum holdings.
His interests include portraits, family dynamics, music and dance, gestures, rituals and celebrations.
Along with Robert Mapplethorpe , Sally Mann, and Nancy Honey, Dick Blau became known as one of the best modern day photographers of children.
