history

The thousand-year-old linden tree stands on the meeting place of the village, the Thie . It is probably a linden tree of Mary that was planted for the introduction of Christianity and consecrated to Mother Mary - it stands near the church.

The linden tree was first mentioned around the year 1100. In the centuries that followed, it had to endure a lot: During the Hildesheim collegiate feud (1519–1523) the entire village was burned down. At the beginning of the 20th century, in 1908, children playing set fire to dry wood and straw in the hollow trunk of the tree. The fire brigade could only extinguish the fire with difficulty. In 1973 the linden tree lost all branches in a great storm; in the following year it drove out again.
