The three witches Jane, Alex and Sukie are all divorced and live their boring lives in the small town of Eastwick in Rhode Island , New England . They are aware of their magical powers and use them. For example, Alex conjures up a thunderstorm to clear the beach for young people and have it all to themselves and their dog.

The three women are constantly on the lookout for the perfect husband until one day the art collector Daryl van Horne buys the Lenox mansion in Eastwick. He seems to be the man the witches have been waiting for and that's why they start a relationship with him. When Jenny, the adult daughter of a lover of the witch Sukie, marries Daryl, the three witches magically kill the girl out of jealousy with a voodoo doll.

It turns out that van Horne was in financial trouble and that Jenny married primarily because of inheritance. The common act, however, shatters the relationship between the witches. Each of them conjures up a husband for themselves and they move away from Eastwick. The Lenox house is divided into apartments by the attaching bank.
