content
The book is about four boys, Rudolpho, Iceland, Snickers and Zement, who, during a television interview in Toronto, tell from their point of view how the short pants gang got their name.
Rudolpho tells about how the school where the short-trouser gang is taught is destroyed by a blizzard. The short pants gang, which is with the sports teacher "Kniescheibe", an ex- ice hockey player in the gym under the already destroyed school, fetches a fire truck with shorts in the icy winter and brings the class to safety
Iceland, on the other hand, tells of an ice hockey game in which the Pauligang, the archenemy of the short pants gang, causes turbulence. In a search for a missing puck, Cement follows a wolf who leads them to a car that contains a woman about to have a baby. As the reader learns in the second volume (The Return of the Short Pants Gang), the wolf was the immigrant Norwegian Ragnar Tegebook. The short pants gang helps with the birth of Agnes' child.
Snickers reports on a video evening at his home. After knocking on the door, the short pants gang opens the door and is pelted with snowballs by the Pauligang. As the members of the short pants gang accidentally open the patio door, a grizzly appears at the door. He goes for a walk in the living room of Snicker's family and scares Snicker's sister Belinda, who wanted to see if everything was going well and saw four boys playing dead on the floor, so she ran to the police. The grizzly finally sinks down on the sofa, completely exhausted, falls asleep and the short-pants gang also makes itself comfortable again. The police can only be amazed.
By the time Zement ponders the origin of the short-pants gang, the interview has already ended. He tells of a train that seems to be going into disaster. Cement can persuade a boy's mind to stop the suicidal journey and get back to life.
Sequels
The sequels “The Return of the Short Pants Gang”, “The Short Pants Gang and the Totem of Okkerville” and “The Short Pants Gang and the Testament of the Brothers” have already appeared (in chronological order). According to the author's biography in the first book, another volume is likely to be planned.
