Audi summer concerts

The Audi Summer Concerts are a music festival that the car manufacturer Audi organizes annually in the months of June and July in the Ingolstadt region .

history

The concert series was launched in 1990 under the name “Summer Concerts Between Danube and Altmühl ”. On June 15, Lorin Maazel and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra opened the first edition of the festival. The series of events has been organized by Audi every year since 2004 as a separate music festival.

Artists included Anne-Sophie Mutter , Daniel Barenboim , Jacques Loussier , Lang Lang , Jan Lisiecki , Hélène Grimaud , Igor Levit , Rudolf Buchbinder , Renaud Capuçon , Frank Peter Zimmermann , Elīna Garanča , Piotr Beczała , Christoph Prégardien , Martin Grubinger and Cameron Carpenter up. There were conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle , Carlos Kleiber , Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla , Teodor Currentzis , Manfred Honeck , Kent Nagano , Thomas Hengelbrock , Ariel Zuckermann , Iván Fischer and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, as well as orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra , the Munich Radio Orchestra , the Bamberg Symphony , the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra , Royal Philharmonic Orchestra , the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the London Symphony Orchestra .

In the summer of 1994, the Salzburg Festival, supported by Audi, came to the Audi Summer Concerts for the first time. The guest performance at the Salzburg Festival has become a tradition that continues to this day. In 2017, the conductor Teodor Currentzis and his ensemble musicaAeterna performed an interpretation of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem in the ballroom of the Ingolstadt City Theater .

In the first two decades of its existence, more than 250,000 spectators attended the festival in over 300 events. In 2009, on the occasion of the 20th season, two open-air concerts with free admission were held in Klenzepark . The Klassik Open Air has been an integral part of the Audi summer concerts ever since.

The concert series is a member organization of the European Festivals Association .
