Festival van Vlaanderen
The Festival van Vlaanderen is an annual music festival held in different locations in Flanders and the Brussels area .
The festival has its origins in Tongeren , where Jan Briers organized the basilica concerts from 1958. Initially the focus was on church music , later classical instrumental music was added and other performance venues were added, including historical places such as abbeys and castles, also in neighboring cities, such as Maastricht, 20 km away . In 1972 the concerts were combined with other events in the cities to form the Festival van Vlaanderen .
