The Klenzepark , often just called Klenze by the locals , is a 20 hectare park in Ingolstadt . It is bounded in the north by the Danube , in the west and south by the bridgehead / Stauffenbergstrasse and in the east by the Ingolstadt – Nuremberg railway line . The Klenzepark is located - separated by the Danube - opposite the old town of Ingolstadt in the Brückenkopf sub-district .

In the warm season, around 100,000 visitors a month use the Klenzepark, mostly young people. While around 75% of the park visitors come from Ingolstadt and the surrounding area, the remaining around 25% travel specifically from locations further away.

history

Before 1992 the area was used as an industrial storage area; the buildings were falling into disrepair. The park was created in 1992 on the occasion of the Bavarian State Garden Show and named after the royal court architect Leo von Klenze . Klenze played a key role in the construction of the Bavarian state fortress of Ingolstadt and, in particular, designed the facades of the buildings in today's Klenzepark. With the Reduit Tilly and the Tower Triva , the park now includes two fortress structures that have been used as museums. They house parts of the Bavarian Army Museum , including the Bavarian Police Museum .

In Klenzepark there are various water points as well as the fountain, the watercourse and a small lake. On the Danube there is a pedestrian bridge to the old town and a floating stage on which a city beach was built for the first time in 2013 . In August the traditional jousting takes place here as part of the Schanzer Donaufest .

Since 1978, the "Open Flair", an alternative culture festival, has taken place every two years on the first weekend in September, most recently in 2017.

In 2007, the City Youth Association Ingolstadt launched the Klenzefest , where the city's students meet and celebrate on the last day of school before the summer holidays . The years before that, however, the festival had already existed unofficially; it was celebrated "wildly", which also brought excess alcohol and fights with it. With the organization by the SJR and the SMVs of the individual schools, the city managed to steer the festival in order. For example, there are admission controls on the premises, on which glass bottles and schnapps are prohibited; beer is served in a regulated manner. A stage will also be set up to provide a platform for school bands from the region.
